On the first single from their upcoming album “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand,” Franz Ferdinand debut another stark, cold, danceable groove. As a devoted FF fan, this doesn’t sound like much of an evolution in their sound to me, but then again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. They’ve found a formula, and it works. I will say that this seems to be a much darker track than their previous singles – the lyrics are notably stranger and more, to quote Alex Kapranos, “sinister” than in the past. This isn’t an invitation to dance, this is an invitation to sell your soul.
The Bottom Line: This is a great new track from Franz Ferdinand – if the rest of the album is this dark, it’s gonna be one hell of a dance party.
